[Meeting place change notice]
Meeting place has been changed and we will meet at the following place on October 15th.  Please come on time so that Kazunori-san can escote you at the door (we need a RFID to get in to the building).

Entrance is right next to the leasing office and the Conference room is right by the entrance.  Parking may be difficult to find near by but usually there should be some spaces a block or two away.

  • Did you have issues in the rain? It took me 2 hrs to get home in rain. あなた方は雨で困りましたか?わたしは家に帰るのに二時間かかりました。

      • Really should pack some food in car. Especially when it may take 2 hrs to get home. 車に食べ物を入れとく事。家に帰るのに二時間以上かかるときにかかせない!

Q: What do you do to concentrate? 集中するにはなにをしますか?

Julie-san: I study in Hotel lobby  私はホテルのロビーで勉強します。

Wataru-san:  My disruptions are my kids so I get away from the kids. Mail is also bad too. Only check mail when I’m in the bathroom. I also shut down phone. 私の集中を壊すのは子供です!だから集中 しないといけない時は子供から離れます。メールも良くないです!メールはトイレの時だけチェックします。電話も出ません。

Mayumi-san: I listen to my special CD. I can’t work with out it now. 私は特別なCDを聞きます。CDがなければ仕事できなくなりました!

Q: What does “work” mean to you? あなたにとって仕事は何ですか?

Kazunori-san: I have a tendency to get too wrapped up in my work. Right now its everything. I some times work a little too much. Maybe because I like to make things. 私は仕事に夢中になりすぎるタイプです。今は仕事がすべてです。時々仕事しすぎます。ものを作るのが好きだからかな?

Akemi-san: I see it as “training”. It’s the gateway to the future! 私は仕事は修行です。未来の門への鍵です。

Q: If you retired right now what would you do? 今すぐ退職できたら何しますか?

Kei-san: I would go on a trip! I used to travel around a lot but now don’t travel much I wopuld like to go see fireworks around the world. 私は旅をします!独身だったころはよくたびしてたんですけどいまはそれほど旅はしてません。世界を旅して花火をみたい。

Jun-san: I would travel too. When I went to Greece I met some older men who were sailing around world I would like to do the same! 私も旅をします。ギリシャにいったときに世界を帆船で旅してた人に会った。私も同じ事がしたいです。

Q: What was the most eventful thing to happen to you when you were driving? ドライブ中にあった一番インパクトあった事は?

Hiroshi-san: I avoided a biker that fell and spun out 3x. Also spun out in nigata! 私はバイカーをよけようとして三回転のスピンアウト をしました。 後新潟でもスピンアウトしました。

Yuko-San: Did a hit and run apparently and didn’t even know about it. Found out later and had all sorts of issues to resolve with police and insurance. 知らない内にヒットエンドラン をしたそうです。後で分かったんですけど色々警察や保険会社に聞かれて大変でした。

  • Hard to keep motivation up? 目標に他するためのモチベイション を高めて追いとくのは難しいですか?
  • Did you talk to your friends about your goal? May have made it more difficult for yourself 目標 を友達に話しましたか?もしそうでしたら自分の目標達成をちょっと難しくしたかもしりません。
  • Side effect of telling your friends : becomes a task obligation 友達に教えたら義務になるからです。
  • If you keep it a secret it becomes more of a noble effort with yourself. 秘密にしたら自分のための目標 になり自分の高貴な目標になります。
  • Story about friend who became patent lawyer.. kept goal a secrete and that seemed to work 友達で特許専門の弁護士になったひとのお話。目標は隠密にし知らない内に目標達成した。

Q: Tell us your worst Flu experience? 今まで一番ひどかったインフルエンザ経験は?

A(Silvia-san): 8 years ago had worst flu experience (probably caught it from the student) was in bead 1 day but returned to the class room because I felt responsible. But in retrospect should have just stayed home. 八年前一番ひどいかぜをひきました。多分生徒からうつったと思います。一日中寝込んだんですけど次の日生徒が心配で教室にもどりました。でも今考えると家に寝ていればよかったと思います。

Q:  Do you do anything special to get over the flu? かぜの時何か特別にしますか?

A(Makoto-san): I gargle, I put on a mask, I drink ginger hot soup, cold medicine, pour hot water over my head and the go to sleep. うがいしたり、マスクしたり、しょうがのスープの飲んだり、風邪薬を飲み、頭をお湯でぬらして寝ます。

Q:how do you prevent from getting sick? あなたはかぜを引かないように何かしますか?

A( Katoko-san): I put on a mask , I was my hands, I try avoiding congested area to minimize risk. マスクをつけます。後は手をよく洗い人ごみの多い所を避けます。

Q: I you had one week off to go during a plant shut down where would you go? もし会社が経費節約のため休みが月一週間 あればどこに行きますか?

A(Kaz-kushida san): I’d go to Hawaii and forget everything going on in the office because it is out of your control 会社にいてもどうにもならないので私は何もかも忘れてハワイにいきます。

Q: What would you do for a week if money was no object? もしお金の心配がなかったら何処に行きますか?

A(Kei-san): Went to Mexico, but I would go to another beach resortメキシコから帰ってきたばっかしなのですがほかの海岸リゾートに行きます。

Q: What if you were on a very limited budget? もし金をあんまり使わない休みの場合は?

A(hiroshi-san):  I am running a marathon so I  would practice for that during the break. 私はマラソンを走るので多分その練習をします。

Q: What seasonal foods do you enjoy ?あなたはどんな季節物が好きですか?

A(mayumi-san):  I found some good Avocados. I have three more I have to eat at home. いいアボカド見つけました。家に後三つあるので食べないと!

Q: I bought beer to kill of my snails. Not sure if it works that good but its eco friendly. Do you have any eco friendly tips? 私はカタツムリ駆除のためにエコなビールを使い駆除しようとしました。結果はいまいちなんですけどまエコなのでいいんじゃないですか?あなたはなんかエコのアドバイスありますか?

A(Gil-san): Beer is good but I think I’d drink it before we gave it to the snails. We had trouble with ants but if you clean their trail with lemons, they can’t find their way back in. It works really great. ビールはいいですね。多分カタツムリにあげる前に飲んじゃうでしょう。前に蟻に困ったときにレモンで蟻の後を拭きますと蟻が来なくなりました。

A: Hiroshi-san:  I feel that spring is more of a Japanese thing than here. Here it just goes to summer but in Japan there is more of a sense of spring with Hanami festivals and all. I like to read about spring time on Japanese blogs. 私は春と言えば日本の方がなんかしくりきます。こちらでは冬から夏に直接行ってしまう様な気がします。日本では花見とかあって春が来たった感じ。後は私は日本のブログとかで春の事読むのが好きです。

A: Kei –san: I have Allergies and it always gets bad from February to April. And it calms down when spring is here so I am always happy during spring! 私は二月から四月までアレルギ症なので春が来ると落ち着くので春になるとうれしいです。

Q: I don’t like spring. What kinda of issue do you have with spring? 私は春が嫌いです。あなたは春に何の恨みがあるんですか?

USA team had 7 steering 1 rower on team. Japan had 1 steering and 7 rowing. USA lost.

They restructure team and put 4 managers, 3 section managers and 1 rower, but they gave all sorts of incentives to the rower, but they lost again.. they fired the rower and sole the team

A: Hiroshi-san – Its our money. There are many other automobile companies emerging from other markets. If the big 3 are still around other companies may not get a chance to emerge from their shadow.

o Was like hour and a half of table topics テイブルトピクスを1時間半やってるみたいでかなりしんどい

o A Little flawed, since no body could really remember each other from the event. ちょつと問題ありかも。。あまりにも大勢の人と短時間話したのでだれもだれか覚えていない。

Q: What do you think of the term “Ara40”? あら40をどう思いますか?

Mayumi-san: Ara 40 is around 40? It most be a pop culture phrase usually its easy for people but people not in the know don’t know what ara 40 means so it can be difficult あら40はあろうんど40の事ですか?知ってるひとはこう言った流行語使いやすですけど知らない人には難しいです。

 

Q:What about Ara20? あら20は?

Takashi-san: area20 or ara hatachi sounds like its too trendy.. I don’t  think it will stay.あら20は流行ぽっすぎる。あんまり長続きしないと思う。

 

Q:What about ara-70?  あら70は?

Makoto-san: ara-70 hear of the word I thought it was about selebu. I feel I don’t keep tarck of my age so I feel that this does not reflect what is ahead. あら70を聞いた時セレブと思いました。私は自分の年を気にしないのでこのあら70はこの先の事をあんまりよく表現しないと思います。

 

Q:What about Ara-30?  あら30は?

Kojima-san: I heard the term and I think its ok. When I 1st heard about it I thought it was a fish or something. I think the ara can also stand for “new”. 私はその言葉を聞いていい言葉だと思います。最初聞いた時魚の事と思いました。でもあらは新たしいの事ではないのでは?

o       You know you been in Japan too long when… you say a green light is blue 日本に長く居ると。。。信号を緑ではなく青いと言う。

o       You know you been in Japan too long when… Vermont curry and Georgia coffee make perfect sense 日本に長く居ると。。。バーモントーカレーやジョジヤ コーヒーがなんとなく納得してくる

o       You know you been in Japan too long when …you answer the phone and start bowing to the person on the other side of the phone line.  日本に長く居ると。。。電話で話す時にペコペコ頭をさげる。

o       You know you been in Japan too long when…you say your hobbies are “dorimu”(driving) and “eiga kansnshou” (watching movies)  日本に長く居ると。。。趣味が映画鑑賞やドライブと言う。

o       Conclusion: Just want to stress that the little cultural difference are the spice of life. 結論 ちょつとした文化の違いでも人生のちょつとした香辛料になる。

Hiroshi San – I think it can be bad but its because our expectation s were inflated and we expected numbers based off of those numbers that we lost site what the real values were. 私はこれから悪化すると思います。でもこれは我々の期待があまりにも上がりすぎたからだとおもいます。

 

Kaz san – The world economic trouble is said to top 10^16 Yen. What do you think of that? 世界の価値が1京円消えました。それをどうおもいますか?

 

Guest Okazuma-san – I am an engineer and I am used to dealing with number in log scale however when I put it in context with money and thinkof the suffering this money will cause it’s a little worrisome. 私はエンジニアなのでこれだけの数字は見慣れていますけどこれがお金である事でちょっと数字の感覚が変わりました。このお金の消滅でどれだけの人が苦しむか考えるとちょつと心配です。

 

Kaz san – What do you think of the GM situation? GMの事どう思いますか?

 

Katoko-san I don’t really know the root cause so I really can’t comment but the size of the industry is so big so I think we need to take action. But it can’t just give money to the industry. We need to monitor it closely. I blame loose regulations of the previous administration. 私はこの問題の元を知らないのであんまりコメントできませんがこの企業があまりにも大きいのでなんらかの援助は必要だと思います。だけどただお金をあげるだけでは問題だと思います。GMをよく見張ってなくてはなりません。そして私は前政権の軽々しい規制のせいにしてます。

o       Have the new baby so we keep the temperature up…but 子供ができたので家を暖かめにしてるけど。。

o       The Bill is based on baseline usage if you go over the baseline amount the price per Kw increases.  電気とガス代は基本仕様量で値段が設定されてる。基本仕様量を超えると値段がかなり跳ね上がります。

o       Live in a home built in 1910’s insulation is not there 1910年代に作られた家なので熱絶縁がほとんどないから

Presidential Elections: Was Republican but started looking at think tank for each of the candidates and I believe Obama had the better think tank so I put my vote behind Obama. I think Think tanks are critical.

 

大統領選挙:私はふつうは共和党なのですが候補者のシンクタンクの事をちょっと調べました。その結果Obama氏の方がいいシンクタンクがあるのでObama氏の方に傾きました。私はシンクタンクは重要だと思います。

·        Impressions of this election この大統領選挙の感想

o       Change – generation change 変化 - 世代交代

o       Minority – another view point is good 少数派 -ちがう視点は望ましい

o       Worldwide reaction – Looked as a beacon of hope. The change is evident in good will from world. 世界反応 - 希望が生まれた。この選挙で世界から善意がアメリカに送られた。

Q: If you could bring back some one famous who would it be? もしだれか有名な人を甦らせたらだれにしますか?

 

Sab-san : George Washington because it would be interesting to see what he thinks of current political climate and state of the nation. ジョージ ワシントン。今の国の状況と政治をどう思うか知りたい。

 

Q: How would you get in to the Guinness world record books? あなたはどうやってギネスに名を残したいですか?

 

Sr Kaz-san: Not sure I would try and make the worlds longest sushi roll. Perhaps 100M long? 確かじゃないけど世界一番長い巻き寿司を作りたいです。

 

Q: Collecting things.. What do you or would collect? どんなものを集めますか?

Mayumi-san: I’m not a collector but ex-husband collected caps. 私はあんまり物を集めません。でも前夫は帽子を集めてました。

 

Q: If you could have a super power what would it be? もしあなたに特別な力が選べたらなににしますか?

Kei-san: I would like the ability to fly. Then I wouldn’t have to drive around.. Although maybe not such a good idea to drink and fly! 私は空を飛ぶ力にします。そうしたら運転する必要がありません。でも飲酒空飛びはよくないかも!

 

Q: How would you like to get your 5minutes of fame? あなたはどうやって有名になりたいですか?

Chase-san: I would like to win an Ironman race. 私はIronManレースに勝って有名になりたいです。

 

Q: If you were a talk show host who would you invite as a guest to your show? もしあなたが自分の番組があったらだれをゲストとして招きますか?

Katoko-san: I’d like to invite Obama and ask where his inner strength comes from. 私はObama氏に来てあなたの内側の力はどこから来るのですか?と聞きたいです。

Speech #3: 警察に正しく捕まる法方How to handle being pulled over

·        Personal Experience with being pulled over twice 二度も速度を上げすぎて警察に止められた時の体験談

·        Both times got off with only a warning. I think its because of my attitude 両方の時も忠告だけで許してもらった。私の態度がよかったから? 

o       Be apologetic 申し訳なさそうな感じをする

o       don’t make an excuse 言い訳をしない。

·        From Police officers perspective 警察からの視点

o       The power to cut ticket is in officer’s hands 罰を与える権利は警察にある。

o       If you show your sorry, it allows for officer to feel sorry for you and not issue the ticket. もし申し訳ない態度をしてたら “あ この人は反省してます。”と思わせて罰金をやらずに見逃してくれるはず。

·        So 2 things to remember おぼえておく事は2

o       No excuses , no Attitude 言い訳は無し!悪い態度は見せない

o       Show apologetic attitude for actions 反省してるまたは申し訳ない態度をとる。

·        You can physically help out with presidential campaign 大統領選挙戦にボレンテァ できます。

o       You can help a campaign out with out having to be a citizen.アメリカ国民じゃなくても手伝えます。

·        Fund raising is important part of the elections. 大統領選挙戦で資金集めは重要

o       Obama used internet to make it easy for average joe to conrtibute Obama氏はインタネットを使い普通の人でも簡単にお金を寄付できるようにした。

·        Although I cannot directly vote I can contribute to campaign 私は投票はできないけどObama氏の資金に寄付しました。

·        This opens up partisipateion from all over world. これは世界からアメリカの選挙戦に参加できるということ。

·        This way I can partisipate in this election without being a citizen. これは私もアメリカ国民ではないですけど選挙戦に参加できるという事です。
